A film version of the Twenty-third Psalm has been produced by Patbe. It is said to have been filmed in Palestine, mostly in and around the caves of the stream Ain Fara, showing the Judean shepherds with their flocks.

A convict ship is the big feature of 44 Captain Salvation,” the sea story by Frederick William Wallace. The film version is being directed by John S. Robertson. The floating prison depicts 200 criminals bound for a lonely exile from England.

Mary Duncan, now playing in ‘The Shanghai Gesture,” in Chicago, has been engaged by W. R. Sheehan to act in Fox films. Greta Nissen, who was for some time with Paramount, has also been signed up by Mr Sheehan. Miss Nissen’s first picture is to be directed by Howard Hawks, who is now finishing work on the film version of “The Cradle Snatchers.” Miss Nissen was first seen on the stage in this country in the charming pantomime scene of “The Beggar on Horseback.” Since then she has appeared in films. More than £40,000 worth of antique furniture and decorations are being used, it is said, in Marion Davies’ film conception of Sir James Barrie’s play, “Quality Street.” Five rooms that are depicted in the heroine’s home in England, about 1805, have been furnished with antiques of the Georgian period. One of the first square planes ever made, and said to be very valuable, has been borrowed to grace the settings. The tables, chairs, cabinets and buffets are mostly Chippendale and Heppelwhite. The bric-a-brac includes English, French and Flemish pieces, together with a good deal of Chinese ware, at that time a vogue in England. ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦

“Synthetic Sin” is the title of a comedy-drama in which Colleen Moore will be seen. It is based on a play by Frederic and Fanny Hatton. The story deals with the adventures of a young actress who decides to gain experience by moving into the “Roaring Forties” in New York. * ♦ * *

The movie camera man can always be sure of an audience when he takes pictures in the street. Usually he is besieged by a crowd of curious men and boys eager to learn why pictures are being taken and when and where they will appear. A favourite trick of the same idlers is to try to get into the picture. ♦ • * •

Max Reinhardt, producer of the world-famous spectacle, “The Miracle,” the screen rights of which have recently been purchased by First National Pictures, is in London, and it is understood that he is making arrangements for a revival of “The Miracle” at the Albert Hall. A modest man, Reinhardt rarely talks about his past or future activities, although almost everywhere “The Miracle” has been acclaimed as one of the finest examples of modern stagecraft. What “The Miracle” at the Albert Hall will be like remains to be seen. Meantime, preparations have been made for the making of the screen version which, as already announced, is to cost £500,000.
