DEATH FOR STRIKERS
“FREEDOM” IN RUSSIA SUPREME COURT’S DECREE. The Supreme Council of the National Economy, according to the Moscow Pravda, has authorised in a new decree severer penalties for strikes and strikers in Russia/. Heretofore strikes have been forbidden, but the decree failed to provide strict measures of punishment. The revised decree classifies strikes with counter-revolutionary activities which permits the Government to impose the death penalty. The council’s order states that the strike as an economic weapon in the hands of the workers imperils the Government a«id causes economic losses without bettering the condition of the workers; therefore Government employees and workers in State subsidised institutions are not allowed to strike. The decree docs not mention either private or concessionary enterprises, and it is believed the Soviet will maintain its former attitude, permitting workers employed by private and foreign capital to strike as formerly.
