THREE SHOPS BURNED
FIRE AT WINTON ORIGIN NOT Ki'IOWN (Per Press Association.] INVERCARGILL, May 19. A serious fire occurred at Winton at five o’clock this morning, when three shops in the business centre were destroyed and a fourth damaged. The fire started in Airs Woolam’s drapery establishment and spread rapidly, destroying the premises of P. Tait, tailor, and Arthur Watson, fruit and auction mart, and damaging the Winton Hardware Company’s stock. The premises occupied by Airs Woolams were insured for £450, and Watson’s for £lOO. Insurance on the stock is not available. The origin of the fire is a mystery.
