DAIRY RESEARCH

SEPARATE TESTS SPECIAL LABORATORIES TO BE PROVIDED [Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, May 18. At a conference at which the Prime Minister and representatives of the Dairy Board, Agriculture Department, Agricultural College Council, and the Research Council were present, it was resolved that dairy research should be carried out apart from the day to day tests required by the Department of Agriculture and trade laboratories. A special committee will manage the dairy research laboratories and consider the details necessary to the conducting of research, the Research Council appointing the staff. The dairy factory, however, will be controlled by the Agriculture College, but the officers engaged in research and the officers of the Department of Agriculture shall have the right of access for experimental purposes. It is suggested that the staff for the laboratory will be the director, bacteriologist, and an assistant chemist and assistant and the factory staff. The capital cost of the laboratory, as part of the college buildings, is £2500. Salaries and apparatus are put at £5400. The Dairy Board will contribute onehalf of the total funds required for dairy research. The Research Council or its management committee will arrange for adequate co-operation with the district laboratories.
