The New Zealand University team against Manly in the first game was: Lindsay, Loveridge, Brandovitch, Freeman, Pacey, Ross, Love, Childs, Keegan, Smith, Allen, O’Regan, Forks, Linton and Morete (wing). The weather was ideal and the ground in good order. The first spell was evenly contested. A quarter of an hour after the kickoff the Blacks were penalised and Thorn was successful with the kick. Lindsay at full-back played surely but made one bad miss early in the game and nearly let Manly through. Pacey and Brandovitch showed up with good runs but the best player on the field was Love, who was always on the ball and played a great game. Morete Gets Credit.

Both New Zealand scores in this half were initiated by Morete. On the first ocacsion he got away on his own but was dragged down just across the line. O’Regan, converted. For the next try Hammill, Manly’s winger, got away and when hauled down he transferred the ball to Thorn, who scored and converted. From the kick-off Morete marked. Linton followed up Morete’s kick very quickly, secured the ball and dashed over. O’Regan’s Kicking Boot. After the ball had passed through several hands Brandovitch found an opening through which he scored. O’Regan added the major points. A couple of fine passing rushes by the Manly backs saw the Black line in danger, but, it was relieved. Then Gibbons, the Manly half, dropped the ball inside his own half. The ball was kicked on to Linton, who dashed through and scored. O’Regan failed to convert. Give and take play followed. Manly pressed hard but good play by Lindsay saved. New Zealand Forces Pace.

The New Zealand forwards were working hard, all doing a fair share. A free kick almost in front of the Manly goal enabled O’Regan to kick a goal. Love was again prominent behind the scrum. Morete was penalised for the way he put the ball into the scrum and Thorn kicked an easy goal. Manly again got away but Freeman kicked the leather into the dead ball area. New Zealand returned to the attack and from a forward rush Childs scored under the posts. O’Regan converted and the game ended: New Zealand 26 Manly . • .. .. 11
