MINISTER’S VISIT. ! From the “ Chronicle’s w Special Correspondent. 1 The Minister of Public Works (the Hon. K. S. Williams) with his secretary and typiste, accompanied by the Mayor of Taumarunui (Mr G. Manson) and Mr P. Keller, district engineer (Taumarunui), left Taumarunui on Monday morning and came down the Wanganui River to Pipiriki. On the way down several deputations, representing the settlers of various districts, waited upon the Minister. On Tuesday morning Mr R. W. Smith, M.P., Mr A. B. Harris (chairman of the Waimarino County Council), Councillor C. H. Ball, Mr H. H. Hogg (County engineer), and Mr A. Mabbott (County Clerk) met the Minister at Pipiriki. The Minister and party motored from Pipiriki to Raetihi, the road being in good order with the exception of a few muddy patches. At Raetihi he was met by the Mayor and Mayoress (Mr and Mrs AV. H. Sandford), Councillors A. W. Ashwell, A. G. Laloli, and H. Reiper. A deputation waited upon the Minister from the Borough Council, when the matter of the construction of the Makotuku Stream bridge was brought up. The Minister said he would be pleased to give the matter careful consideration. ’ After lunch the Minister inspected the Makotuku bridge site and then motored out to Ruatiti, where he was interviewed by the following deputation: Ruatiti settlers, Mangapuroa settlers, and the Public Works workers. The Minister left Raetihi in the evening for Ohakune, where he received a deputation, after which he proceeded per rail to Waimarino. PERSONAL NOTES. Mr Lambie arrived in Raetihi yesterday to take up his duties as coach under an engagement with the Waimarino Golf Club. Mr J. F. Punch, of Auckland, is staying in Raetihi for a few days. Mrs M. McNair, of Te Awamutu, who has been visiting Raetihi for a few days, returned home last night. Mr L. J. Vile is at present an inmate of Dr. Feltham’s hospital, suffering from an attack of pneumonia. CONCERT. A most successful concert was held in the Theatre Royal, the proceeds being in aid of the local croquet Club, when the following items were rendered:—Raetihi Orchestra (under the leadership of Mr H. H. Hogg), selection “Rustic Festival Rangataua Concert Party, “When You and I Were Seventeen”; song, Mr AV. Thompson, “Sitting on the Top of the World,” pianoforte solo, Miss F. Ashwell, “The Rustle of Spring”; vocal trio, Misses Taylor and Lcckie and Mr Grinley, “The AVest, a Nest, and You”; song, Mrs Plummer, “I Hear a Thrush at Eve”; song, “Tony Smith, “Minding My Business; Dutch dance, Miss Sullivan; “song, Miss Larkin, “Love Will Fnd a Way”; musical monologue, Miss Minifil, “Baby Ribbons”; Rangataua Concert Party, ‘Strike up the Band”; Orchestra selection, “La Torpille,” monologue, Miss N. Arthur, “Johnnie, Me and You”; vocal duet, Misses Urwin, “I Wish I Were a Tiny Bird,” and “Nocturne”; recitation, Master G. Anderson, “The Cricket Club of Red Nose Flat”; vocal duet, Mesdames Harris and Hewett, ‘Whisper and I Shall Hear”; dance, Miss Sullivan, “Irish Jig”; song, Mr Tony Smith, “Stoney Broke in No Man’s Land’’; Rangataua Concert Party, “Hawiian Lullaby. The Mayor (Mr W. H. Sandford) on behalf of' the Crloquet Club thanked the concert promoters and all those who had helped to make the entertainment such a success.
