“THE THIRD DEGREE"
POLICE INTERVIEWS SHOULD THEY BE PERMITTED AT SCHOOLS? Should police officers be permitted to interview school pupils during school hours, and is a beadmaster within his rights in refusing this right to the police? This question was put to the Wanganui Education Board at its meeting yesterday by the head teacher of the Manunui School. The writer stated that he did not like children being put through the “third degree,” and considered that children should be questioned at their own homes and in the presence of their parents. The meeting considered the teacher was correct and it was decided to obtain the opinion of the Commissioner of Police on the matter.
