VICEREGAL. Sir Charles Fergusson, GovernorGeneral of New Zealand, left Taihape yesterday morning for Feilding, where he last evening dedicated a new Masonic lodge. His Excellency will visit Wanganui to-day, returning to Wellington to-mor-row. Mr H. Webb, of Wanganui, has been visiting Dunedin. •» Mr Justice Ostler and his associate, Mr Wilson, are staying at Hotel Braeburn. Mr A. J. Joblin, Mayor of Taihape, is visiting Wanganui. He is registered at Foster’s Hotel. Mr A. M. Bell, Secretary for Education, has been appointed Assistant Director of Education. Mr and Mrs W. A. Woodger and their daughter have returned to Auckland, after spending a holiday in Marton and Wanganui. Mr P. Taylor, a victim of the Mt. Egmont tragedy, continues to make progress towards recovery, according to advice received yesterday. Mr H. V. Coverdale, of Auckland, an old boy of the Wanganui Collegiate School, has been appointed house surgeon at the Royal Opthalmic Hospital, Moorfield, London. The funeral of the late Mr Joseph Russell took place yesterday morning at the Wanganui Catholic Cemetery when there was a large attendance. The late Mr Russell was one of the most enthusiastic supporters of the Wanganui Garrison Band, and the gathering included many friends from the railway service and the band. The Very Rev. Father Campbell read the burial service and “The Last Post” was sounded by Mr J. Watson conductor of the Garrison Band. At the Rutland Hotel are Mr and Mrs J. A.
