SPRIGGENS’ HOTEL
PALATIAL'HOTEL NEARING COMPLETION September next should witness the completion in Wanganui of what will undoubtedly be one of tho foremost houses of accommodation in the Dominion—Spriggens’ Hotel. This handsome hostelry is being erected to the order of Mr Geo. Spriggens on a most convenient site at the corner of Guyton and St. Hill Streets. That it will be a building of commanding appearance is already evidenced, whila a glance at the plans is sufficient to demonstrate the care that has been put into the designing of a commodious and thoroughly up-to-date hotel. The architect’s instructions were to plan a house such as should be creditable in every way to the City. Three stories, covering a large ground area, go to the making of Spriggens’ Hotel. The two upper floors will contain $6 rooms, eight bathrooms, eight' shower rooms, and all necessary conveniences, while on each floor there will be in addition a spacious and well-appointed lounge with a floor space of 35 x 28 feet. On the ground floor there will be three shops, the public and private bars, kitchen, pantries, etc, a dining room to seat upwards of a hundred guests, a roomy lounge, and the imposing main entrance to tho hotel with a floor measurement of 27ft. x 33ft. The construction throughout is of reinforced concrete and brick, the whole of the two upper floors and stairways being of reinforced concrete, thus assuring a completely fire-proof building. The architect is Mr T. H. Battle, while the building contract is in the capable hands of Mr A. G. Bignell. Intending visitors to Wanganui are invited to book accommodation at Spriggens’ Hotel as from Ist October next. Now is the time to make a note of it.*
