NO TEN-SHILLING TOTALISATOR. TUESDAY'S COMMITTEE MEETING The committee of the Marton Jockey Club met on Tuesday evening; present —Messrs R. E. Beckett (chairman), D. G. Riddiford, J. Bull, L. M. Richards, J. Brice, K. W. Deighton, J. R. L. Stan ford, E. Openshaw, R. H. Trotter, F. R. H. Brice. J. H. C. Broad, S. J. Gibbons and H. J. Cameron. A circular was received from the New Zealand Racing Conference in reference to the Gaming Bill, 1927, m which it is proposed to amend the present refund of 1-J per cent, by increasing the refund to 21 per cent, on the first £20.000 invested on the totalisator (but not to exceed £5OO in any year to a club), and to abolish the 1910 21 per cent, receipts tax which was duplicated by the 1917 Amusements Tax; also to permit of moneys being telegraphed to elubs for investment on the totalisator, installation of the double machine where clubs desire it. and the publication of dividends. The committee decided to support the Bill and to facilitate its passing by soliciting the sup- » port of the members for the district. In reference to a circular from the Auckland Racing Club re the new scheme for computing dividends, the committee viewed with favour the proposal. Dr. T. Gerald Harpur was elected a member of the club and another member was proposed. Mr. E. Openshaw's notice of motion to instal 10s. windows at the totalisator was discussed and it was decided that in view of the expense in installing and working the 10s. windows and in consideration of the expenditure the club js faced with in connection with the improvements being carried out at the racecourse, the committee could not see its way to instal 10s. windows at the present time. A vote of thanks was accorded Mr. Openshaw for the information supplied in reference to the 10s totalisator. The chairman congratulated the vicepresidents and stewards on their reelection without a ballot, which showed the members' appreciation of the work being carried out by the committee and stewards. Messrs K. W. Deighton, J. R. L. Stanford, S. J. Gibbons and H. J. Cameron were re-elected a Programme Committee. The Course Committee reported that they had laid out a steeplechase course on the grounds which would be fit to race on at the September meeting.
