WAVERLEY CAMP

MOUNTEDS UNDER CANVAS TEN DAYS IN THE OPEN. was great activity on the Waverley Racecourse yesterday when the 2nd W.W.C. Mounted Rifles went into camp there. The officers and N.C.O.’s had been in camp for a three days’ refresher course. Camp will be struck on May 27, anad by that time it is anticipated the troops will have achieved a high standard of efficiency. The Regimental Band, under Captain G. Buckley, is 36 strong, and will play an important part in the life of the camp. The camp will be open to visitors on Sunday afternoon, May 22, and on Wednesday, May 25, when a tabloid sports programme will attract a large crowd, judging from the interest which was taken in this feature when the camp was held at Hawera last year. Lieutenant-Colonel W. R. Foley is the Comamnding officer, and his senior officers are Majors Chisholm, Hayhurst and Wells, Captains Strachan, Ferens, Leech, Smart, Harvey, and Gibbs.
