PARTY DISPUTES

AUSTRALIAN LABOUR CONFERENCE DECISIONS Received May 17, 8 p.m. (A. & N.Z.) CANBERRA, May 17. The Federal Conference of the Australian Labour Party defeated a proposal that all expulsions and suspensions as the result of the Labour split in New South Wales should be void. This mainly affects Mr Seale, who was expelled by the Conroy Executive for defiance of its orders. The conference passed a resolution amending the Federal Party’s policy, particularly in regard to defence. It was resolved that the Commonwealth Constitution be amended in order to include a condition that there should be no conscription for service overseas, the Government retaining the power to provide for adequate home defence against a possible foreign invasion. It was also decided to insert a new rule in the platform that all incomes up to £3OO a year should be exempt from taxation, and that the Government should have complete control over wireless services.
