MINISTER’S INQUIRIES GOES TO SEE FOR HIMSELF. [Per Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, April 30. During a discussion in the House of Representatives of last session on the ;Rent Restriction Bill, some members urged that a commission should be set lup to inquire into housing conditions I generally, and particularly in the more i densely populated centres. 1 The Minister of Labour (the Hon. jG. J. Anderson) promised them that he i would visit the four principal cities of i the Dominion and sec for himself the I slum areas, and before leaving Dunedin , on Saturday the Minister, accompanied 1 by local members of Parliament, paid a ! visit to several areas in that city, where housing conditions were considered not all that could bo desired. | The Minister will carry out a similar inspection in Christchurch to-morrow, and will see for himself the dwellings of ■some of the people who would be most affected if the Rent Restriction Act were allowed to lapse.
