THE GAME IN WANGANUI RESULTS OF SATURDAY’S ELAY Victoria Park was again the venue of all Wanganui Association games on Saturday. The day was cold, but a good crowd of enthusiasts watched the various games. Eastbrooke Head the Table Thistle made changes from last week Duncan and Newman taking their places in the forward line and McLeori going to his obd position at back. EastorouKe introduced Upton in place of Hasted. Thistle won the toss and elected to play with a slight breeze in their favour. Tho ’Brooke were first to take up the running and Walker was called upon to clear from Thomson and Upton. The ’Brooke were soon back in Thistle territory where combined play by McKechnie, Thomson and Upton kept Walker and Co. on the alert. A foul against Fyfe outside the penalty area ended, in Thomson driving in a fast low shot which Walker held m brilliant fashion and cleared Pressure was bound to tel’ md Little in tackling Thomson gave <vay a penalty. From the spot Thomson drove into the net. Thistle brightened this, Land and Fyfe being prominent in allowing Kidd to test Killeen from long range. Eastbrooke were doing most of the attacking this half and only strong defensive tactics by Walker, Langslow and McLeod kept the Tliistle citadel from again falling. At this period of the game McLead came under the ban of the referee and was promptly ordered to the pavilion. Thistle strove pluckily with ten men to the end and with no further scoring the game finished. Eastbrooke 1, Thistle 0. Thistle have to thank Walker, Langslow, Land and McLeod for saving them from a worse defeat, Langsloy especially being in great form. Eastbrooke’s best were Glover, Thomson, L. Clapham and McKechnie. Mr F. Phillips was referee. WORKSHOPS v. WOOLLEN MILLS This game on the short pitch was the best of the day and brought out the fighting qualities of what looked a very inexperienced ’Shops eleven. The Mills, harbouring thoughts of last Saturday’s debacle, went at it hammer and tongs right from the jump. Led by Hope, Ritson had to clear on several occasions. Midway through the first half Hope got through and placed Mills in the lead. Workshops were not long in proving that their recruits from the Junior ranks were stickers. Glover and Newsham got down on the right amdi the former delivered a high drooping shot which completely deceived Grover. The teams crossed over equal, but Mills soon took the lead. Cowan seized upon a mistake by a ’Shops defender and scored. ’Shops went all out for the equaliser and Knowles, working his way to the right, received from Mackley and beat Grover. The pace became fast, both teams striving for the winning point. From a hefty clearance by Richanljs Lowe gave to Mackley who fastened on and beat Grover with a slanting shot.
