WANGANUI EAST CLUB CLOSING CEREMONY Last Saturday saw the last rjay of play lor the season at Wanganui East. Mr Alt* Willis, president, in addressing members said the season had been very successful. He mentioned the club’s win in Ihe champion of champions full rinks, Wanganui Centre Easter tournament, also runners-up at the Christmas tournament. Mr A. W. Jones supported the president in his remarks, saying that the club had successfully defended: the Burn Cup more times during the season than any other club. , ’ Opportunity was taken to say goodbye to Mr A. W. Morris, who has been the club’s secretary during the year and who is shortly leaving fur Dunedin. The following games were played during the afternoon: — Vincent, Gaunt, Night, Scrivener 23, v. Anderson, Connell, Willis. Jones, 13; Lind, Hoiftson, Martin, Cochrane 20, v. McKcssar, Muir, Horsley, senr., H. Stewart, 23; Blackburn, Benge, J. Anderson, H. G. Horsley 11, v. Streeter, Taylor, Brittain, Beckett, 25; Gow, Roberts 22, v. Evans, Powell 26. WANGANUI CLUB THE CURTAIN FALLS The curtain was rung down on the 192 G-27 season on Saturday afternoon so far as the Wanganui Club is concerned. The weather conditions prevailing called for something a little more strenuous than a game of bowls. Not 1 withstanding this, quite a number of ' members attended for the concluding games and these were much enjoyed. The. final for the Full Rink Club , competition, which in its final stages had passed through various vicissitudes, was the centre of interest. Postponed at the conclusion of the 11th head on account of rain from Saturday, April .16, the game reopened at the 12th,- and after a few evenly-con-tested heads had followed. Webb got “anchored” on the fateful number I.’’, and five heads followed before there was a turn in the tide, his opponent scoring steadily in the interval. The task of bridging the gap was too difficult, and at the conclusion of • the 21st head, Skipper H. Price was 9 i up. Cheers and congratulations of i those present followed a meritorious win.
