GIRLS’ LONG JOURNEY

NEW YORK AND RETURN ADMIRERS OF GALLI-CUBCT. By making the journey of 3000 miles to New York, two young London typistes, sisters, Misses Ida and Louise J Cook, have realised a long-cherished ambition to hear Mme. Galli-Curci sing in opera. They recently returned from America. They were two years saving for the trip. Having accumulated £2OO, they were given special leave by the Government departments where they are employed, and on December 29 they left Ilngland for New York. On arrival in America, Miss Ida, who had met Mme. Galli-Curci at the Albert Hall, called upon the singer, who gave the sisters free tickets for her nine operas, which she had promised them when in London. This promise was made when the girls had asked her to sing in opera in London, and she had ) told them that that was unlikely.
