IN BLINDING RAIN

TRAIN HITS MOTOR-CAR LUCKY ESCAPES SYDNEY, April 27. A serious accident was narrowly averted at the crossing on the Morpeth line near East Maitland railway station. Mr Cant, of Muswellbrook, was driving five passengers in his car through driving rain. With tho blinds down and the rain obscuring his vision he did not see an approaching train, which caught the car on the crossing and overturned it, without injuring any of the occupants. Fortunately the driver of the locomotive was slowing down at the time and saw the car as the train was within a few yards of it. The car was badly damaged. Mr Cant heard tho warning whistle usually given by a train on approaching the crossing, but he thought the train was on tho main line.
