BLOODSHED FEARED ARMED MEN PATROL LEVEES Received April 28, 11 p.m. (A and N.Z.) NEW YORK, April 28. Residents of the st. Barnabas parish of New Orleans, one of the sections which would be flooded by the proposed break in the levees, have assembled on the banks and. are patrolling the levee armed with rifles machine guns and pistols. They declare that the levee will not be cut, despite the intention of the State of Louisiana. The spokesman for residents said* “We built these levees. Our pcole have lived here 200 years ,and we will not leave now.” The Mayor of New Orleans, realising the gravity of the situation ordered 500 extra police in addition to the 200 men now on duty, and serious bloodshed is expected when the attempt is made to dynamite tho levee.
