NEW SOUTH WALES MINES SIX THOUSAND MEN IDLE. Received March 8, 11 pjn. SYDNEY, March 8. FoUowing upon the Court’s decision that every place in coal mines must be thoroughly examined before work is started, ten mines in the Maitland district, employing 6000 men, were to-day rendered idle. The Miners’ Officials* Association decided that to comply fully with the Act, more deputies were required, and, sticking to the letter of the law, they were unable to complete the examinations before the men were ready to nter. Consequently the pits are idle.
