ROWING
AMATEUR STATUS ENGLISH DEFINITION LONDON, March 7. The conference of rowing authorities, convened by the National Amateur Rowing Association adopted a definition of amateur oarsman, sculler, or coxswain, the following clauses being agreed upon: (a) Chie who never rowed, sculled, or steered for money, wager or staked bet; (b) who never taught, pursued, or assisted in the practice of rowing or any athletics for pecuniary, gain; (c) who never knowingly rowed, sculled or steered with or against a professional for a prize; (d) who has never been employed in or about boats .for pecuniary gain, as a seaman on sailing or auiliary craft, nor as a boatman, waterman, lighterman, fisherman, or building of racing, rowing, or sculling boats; (e) who never sold or raised money on any prize won. The latter part of clause D shall be locally interpreted.
