A FRUITFUL RAID
CHINESE OPIUM DEN HEAVY FINE IMPOSED. AUCKLAND, March 5. As a sequel to a police raid on a Chinese opium den in Grey Street, a young Chinese named Du Poy, the proprietor, was fined £55 in the Police Court. The doors were heavily barred, and the house specially fitted out for opium smoking. Chief Detective Cummings stated that the den was apparently run on well organised lines. Clasps were ready for placing Sin. bars on all doors, and an elaborate electric bell system was in operation.
