OLD BOYS’ FOOTBALL CLUB. [ From the “ Chronicle’s ” Special Correspondent. ] At the annual general meeting of the Old Boys ’ Football Club on Thursday night, Mr. W. L. Aynsley presiding, the report and balance sheet were adopted. The election of officers resulted:— patron, Mr. W. S # Glenn, M.P; president, Mr. A. Melndoe; vice-presidents, Messrs. C. E. Gibbons and W. L. Aynsley; committee, Messrs. 8. Prince, L. Mcßeth, W E. Gibbons, G. Harre, C. Hoffman, and officers ex-officio; manager and coach, Mr. C. E. Gibbons; selectors, Messrs. C. E. Gibbons and captain and vice-captain of each team; club captain, Mr. L. Mcßeth; secretary, Mr. P. F. Mildon; treasurer, Mr. W, L. Aynsley; auditor, Mr. L. R. Preston; delegate to the Rangitikei Rugby Subunion, Mr. W. L. Aynsley. It was decided to .affiliate with the Rangitikei Rugby Sub-union and enter a junior team and a third grade team as last season. The junior subscription is to be 5s and the third grade subscription 2s 6d. The names of Messrs. C. E. and W. E. Gibbons are to be forwarded to the Referees’ Association as referees, and Mr W. E. Gibbons was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for the use of his property during the year. The chairman referred to the good work of the retiring secretary, Mr. E. Broughton, and mentioned that the club ’s good position was largely due to his efforts. The retiring secretary was voted an honorarium of £3 3s Od. It was decided to take £5 worth of debentures in the Marton Park lighting scheme. An opening dance will be held shortly and the general committee was re- ■ commended to draw up a set of rules. The treasurer, Mr. W. L. Aynslev and the secretary, Mr. P. Mildon, were authorised to operate on the bank account. Several new members were enrolled. SCHOOL OF DANCING. Miss A iola Barker, teacher of operatic character classical. National, ballroom dancing and deportment, notifies that her studio, No 12A Broadway, has re-opened. Miss Barker is a teacher of modern ballroom dancing, and the latest fox trot, quick-step, valse, tango and the new flat Charleston. GIRL WHO GOT MILLION. At the Police Court yesterdav morning, before Messrs F. R. H. Brice and F. Purnell J.sP., a first offender was charged with being drunk and for committing an indecent act at the Railway subway. On the first charge he was discharged and on the second he was convicted and fined £5. Mr K A. Williams defended accused. ATHLETIC FOOTBALL CLUB. The annual meeting of the Athletic l ootball Club was held on Thursday evening, Mr T. A. Wilson presiding over a large attendance. The report disclosed a satisfactory season, three teams being fielded. The seniors, although suffering from several casualties, had the satisfaction of defeating every team in the competition, except Rata, at least once. The juniors annexed the Bengal Cup and were runners-up for the competition. The thirds performed very creditably and wore in the final for the play-off with the Old Boys. LIBERATION OF PHEASANTS. I Mr G. T. Avery, secretary of the Marton branch of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society on Friday, received a consignment of GO pheasants I from Papakura for liberation in the 1 hangitikei district on the properties of i Messrs J. Robson. Fullerton-Smith, | R. L. Gibson, Schultz Bros, and H. Collier. This is the largest consignment received in Marton. Ten Canadian geese are due to arrive shortly and these will be liberated on the property of Mr W. J. Simpson at Heaton Park on a selected site under the personal supervision of Mr W J. Simpson. The Australian black duck and English mallard are all doing well. Another branch in which this society is doing good work is in the liberation of trout fry and this year 77,000 trout fry and 400 yearlings have been transferred to the Rangitikei River between Marton and Bulls. LATE CONSTABLE STEERE The funeral of the late Constable H. Steere yesterday afternoon was a most representative one and was attended by 20 members of the Police Force from all parts of the district, SeniorSergeant Lopdell, Sergeants Finch, Cahill, Moriarty and Constables E. •Jones and Thompson acting as pallbearers. Members of the Lodge Ruapehu (Freemasons) preceded the hearse in which the coffin was draped with the Union Jack and surrounded with beautiful wreaths. A party of Boy Scouts followed and there was a long trail of motor cars, the cortege showing the high esteem in which the late constable was held by the whole district. The Rev. J. B. Reid conducted an impressive service at the church and at the graveside, whilst W.M. Bros. Jas Gibson conducted the Masonic funeral service, assisted bv P.M. Bros. A. J. B. Sicely and J. D. Gorrie. GENERAL NEWS A final reminder is given intending competitors that entries for all amateur running events and professional cycling events close this evening with the secretary Mr L. R. Preston at Marton.
