AUSTRALIAN DAIRYING
DUTY ON NEW ZEALAND PRODUCE. MELBOURNE, Feb.2l. A report presented to the council of the Co-operative Butter and Cheese Factories’ Association states that the gain to the farmers of Australia from the Paterson stabilisation plan has been £2,000,000. After paying a bounty of 3d per lb. on all butter exported, the committee had sufficient balance in hand to make a rebate to the manufacturers of seven-sixteenths of a penny per lb on butter, which will amount to £420,000. The council agreed that it was imperative that the duty bn New Zealand butter be increased to 6d per lb. and 6d per lb. on cheese, with a corresponding increase under the general tariff.
