BOWLING [ From the “ Chronicle’s ” Special Correspondent. ] During the week-end Claringbold and Schauer challenged Ryan and McKnighi for the Marsh Cup. The game was very close towards the finish. On the 20th head both teams were 23, but in the final Claringbold got the verdict by one. In the early stages of the game Claringbold got a long lead. Ryan with his usual dogged play gradually caught up and made Claringbold play his best to win by such a narrow margin. THE ROYAL TRAIN On Saturday night the train which is to carry the Duke and Duchess of York throughput the North Island pasod through Taihape at 9.20 p.m. and the public streamed to the station to inspect it. The fittings and furnishings are of an extremely elaborate nature, particularly the sleeping compartment and the dining room. An excellent gas stove was one of the appointments of an elaborate kitchen. DANCE AT MARTON The Mataroa Hail Committee held another dance o/T Saturday evening when there was a large attendance, and a very enjoyable evening was spent. Mr Hartly’s orchestra provided the music and Mr Petherick was M.C. GUIDES AND BROWNIES’ PICNIC The Girl Guides, under the control of Mrs Hill and Mrs A. Beale and the Brownies’ headed by Miss K. James, held a picnic on the Taihape recreation grounds on Saturday afternoon, when games and races were carried out. Luncheon was provided and all apparently thoroughly enjoyed the outing.
