THE STOCK MARKET

MASTERTON RAM FAIR. ROMNEYS NOT IN DEMAND. [ Special to “ Chronicle. ” ] MASTERTON, Feb. 18. This year’s ram flair was notable for the thorough collapse of the Romney market. Bidding was desultory and the demand slackened to a stage never previously experienced. At this fair there was a very hdavy entry of flocks, half of which were passed in, while studs fared no beteer. . The top price for studs was 35gns. for a shearling, offered on account of Blatchford Bros. Mastcrtnn). Twentyseven guineas was the best price for Penrose sheep, which Averaged 23 1-3 guineas. Mrs S. E. M. Holmes (Masterton) topped the flock averages with 7 2-3 guineas. I The sale of Southdowns and Lincolns was in marked contrast, both breeds , finding a ready sale, but tat a lower level of values than those which vavc ruled here in previous years. R. M. Perry (Masterton), topped the Down -flock averages with 12 id guineas, while James Knight (Feilding) secured top price of 87 guineas for studs, the 'averages for which were topped with 45 guineas by C.
