THE DOMINION PRAISED CONTROL OF STREET TRAFFIC. A Sydney business man, Mr. S. V. Brickton, who is on his first visit to New Zealand, paid* a great tribute' to the way in which city traffic is handled in Wellington. “There is no doubt that in many ways you are far superior to some of the Commonwealth cities,” he stated in Wellington, “and one of them, to my way of thinking, related to the traffic problem. In Sydney, we have
more things to tackle in this direction than you have over here, but that does not alter tho fact that tho traffic in Wellington is handled in a splendid manner. Even at the busiest hours th-.-corners are seldom blocked for more than a second or two, which only goes to show that the majority of motorists work hand in hand with the man on patrol.” Another thing that impressed Air. Rric.kton was the way the people went about their work. “Ln Wellington or Auckland one* never sees people tearing along streets like one does in Sydney,” he said. “Over hero everything seems in order. What I mean to say is that)
i yonir folk all look as if they arc bound ? somewhere’ to get something. There in i not the rush and bustle that there is on I the other side.” Speaking of Now Zealand girls, the • visitor said he noticed they did no* s paint so much as tho women of Australia. “T think that the averagd i Sydney and Melbourne woman is by far the smarter dressed.” ho continued, “but. she docs not for all that, possess tho same grace and build your girls • do. The Now Zealand lass is, to my j way of thinking, more’ like tho out-of- ’ door sporting type wo read about in books. She seems to be healthy and J happy, and goes on her way smiling,"
