DISTINGUISHED SOLDIER

VISITOR TO AUCKLAND SERVED IN SPANISH-AMERICAN WAR [ Special to “ Chronicle. ” ] AUCKLAND, Feb. 18. A visitor to Auckland in the liner Franconia to-day is Major-General George M. Moulton, of Chicago, who bore a distinguished part in the Span-ish-American War of 1898 as Colonel of the 2nd Illinois Infantry. General Moulton did notable work in Cuba, reorganising the civic administration of Havana city, instituting a police force in the capital, and generally in producing order and good Government out of chaos and corruption. General Moulton also holds a high rank •in the Masonic Craft. He is Past Master of the Grand Encampment of Knights Templars and Past Grand Master for the State of Illinois.
