OFF TO WELLINGTON
GARRISON BAND FAREWELLED IMPRESSIVE MARCH THROUGH CITY In glorious sunshine the Garrison Band made a farewell appearance yesterday, when the popular combination left by the middlay train for Wellington and the Dominion Band contests. So well is the band playing at present that critics consider it has an excellent chance at Wellington. On Thursday, at the races, tand yesterday, when the band marched down the Avenue on its way to the station, both visitors and townspeople were warm in their praise of the smart detachment. Mtarching in perfect formation to the lively air of “Wairarapa, ” the contest march, the band was worthy of the admiration its appearance excited. A mascot carried at the head of the band was la symbol of the good wishes it will carry to the contest. The Queen Alexandra Band, which is also participating in the contests, leaves for Wellington by a special bandsmen’s train on Sunday. Farewell public appearances will be made at the races to-day, and at a cycling carnival on Cook’s Gtardens to-night.
