THE FERTILISER WAR
FARMERS’ DISCUSSION. [ Per Press Association. ] AUCKLAND, Feb. 16. A little skirmish in the wqr between rival fertiliser companies took place at a meeting of the Morrinsv;ille branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union. The trouble was caused by a motion by the president (Mr. J. Allen) to congratulate the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company for reducing the price of fertilisers. Mr. J. E. Leeson, chairman of directors of the Morrinsville Dairy Company, said that though he would rather differences between dairy concerns should not enter into farmers' meetings, it was a fact that, although the result was a reduction to all farmers, the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company’s original intention was to obtain concessions for their own suppliers. The present war would affect the Farmers’ Fertiliser Company, of which many of them were shareholders, and if the meeting passed the motion they would be upholding a rival concern. He added that the companies were losing at the present prices. The motion was carried with two dissentients.
