STEAMER DELAYED
KAITUNA AT AUCKLAND CREW ALLEGE UNSEAWOBTHINESS [ Per Press Association. ] AUCKLAND, Feb. 16. I The Union Company’s steamer Kaii tuna has been delayed at Auckland for I two days owing to the crew refusing I to take the vessel to sea. They allege I that she is unsefaworthy, and request ! that an inquiry into the matter should be held. I Officials of the company have been in communication with the Marine Department, u ’and it is understood that la reply received states that the Kaituna is seaworthy and has been granted a certificate to that effect. The company is hopeful that the vessel will take her departure to-morrow. The Kaituna was recommissioned on Monday in order to load cement at ,Portland for southern ports, and the same afternoon was moved to the Princes’s Wharf to take in stores and embark a new crew. Owing to the delay the Kauri is to -seaworthy was made after the crew had signed on the ship’s articles. lOwing to the delay the Kauri it to take her loading berth at Portland and as a consequence, if the Kaituna sails to-morrow it will be for another port.
