An epidemic of suicides among young students at universities and high schools during the past eight weeks has shocked the nation. Th e series of tragedies camo to a head yesterday, when a young college man shot himself, leaving a despondent note, and to-day, when three high school students committed suicide, mlaking a total of eleven in two months. Several of these were members- of-prominent families, living in comfortable circumstances. One left a message saying he was “Going on a glorious adventure,” another said he believed he would become & burden, a third wrote that he feared he would lose his mind and a fourth destroyed himself after amateur theatricals in the school auditorium, where he had been received with great applause. The most effecting case was that of the son of the noted American poet, Louis Untenneyer. The youngster killed himself shortly after being visited by his father.
