AMUSEMENTS, MEETINGS, ETC

THE GRAND Aileen Pringle, Lowell Sherman and Chaster Conklin carry off the acting honours in “The Wilderness Woman,” which will have its final screening at the Grand to-day and to-night. The picture offers Miss Pringle her first opportunity to break away from the queen and vampire typo of role with which she has been associated in the past, and to reveal a talent for comedy. As the Alaskan miner’s daughter, uncouth and unverf«ed in the ways of society, or even of modern society, who comes into violent contact with the conventions in New York City, ishe presents a figure at once amusing and appealing. Lowell Sherman appears as the hero, while others who appear in the cast are Henry Vibart and Robert Cain. The supports will include Tom Tyler and his three pals—the kid, the horse, and the dog—in “Wyoming Wild Cat,” an outdoor picture full of comedy and romance. “No Man’s Gold” In “No Man’s Gold,” Tom Mix comes riding back to the Grand to-mor-row in a part that fits him. Here again is the Tom Mix who handles a pair of fists with almost the same deadly effect that he handles his guns; does some riding that makes the heart race and then nearly stops it when he crashes down into an old shack in a tool bucket, destroying the shelter of a gang of ruffians who were after the secret of a hidden mine. “No Man’s Gold,” will have three days’ run at the Grand Theatre commencing to-morrow. Not only is Mix back in one of the finest pictures of the type that gave him i fame, but he is supported by a cast, i each one of whom is an old favourite ( with moving picture audiences. There is Eva Novak, who plays the part of Jane Rogers, a rodeo star. The part of the villainous gambler, Pete Kreil, is played by Malcolm Waite. This picture will be supported by Cecil B. De Mille “Made For Love,” featuring Leatrice Joy. The plans for this attraction arc now open at the Grand Theatre office. MUNICIPAL PICTURES Showing finally at the Opera House to-night is Paramount’s latest comedy success—“ Hold That Lion,” starring Douglas Mac Lean. California boasts of a wide variety of scenery but it failed to produce African jungles in sufficient quantity to supply the demand for this new feature. Since it was impractical for the comedian to go to the Dark Continent for the real thing, several square miles of imitation Africa were constructed at the studio tind local colour was supplied by a large family of lions, several chimpanzees and twelve or so negroes. “Hold That Lion” shows in conjunction with an excellent feature “Who is the Man?” Douglas Mac Lean’s newest success is an exhilarating and entertertaining comedy. Reserves are obtainable at H. I. Jones and Son ’s.
