Many residents dependent on tanks for their water supply have been compelled to invoke the services of the fire brigade to replenish them. The necessity for a swimming baths in tho town has been very much stressed, and the mountain streams have been well patronised despite the fact that the water is exceedingly cold. Al though, the liberal coating of local grit that has recently been placed on Awatea Street by the Borough Council han improved this thoroughfare considerably, residents in the immediate vicinity have just cause to complain of the annoyance in their homes caused by the clouds of dust following tho passing of cars during the dry weather. To alleviate the nuisance one resident is considering the advisability of placing oil on the road directly opposite his residence.

The excursion train to Waitomo Caves was well patronised on Sunday. About 100 entrained at Ohakune.
