Bitter feeling among members of the same party over controversial legislation resulted in fist fights to-day in both House and Senate, and considerable disturbance, which subsided only after some difficulty. Senator Wheeler, wishing to point out a personal privilege, demanded that he be heard on the Banking Bill, which the Senate was then considering. Senator Glass objected, land Senator Wheeler affirmed that Senator Glass had promised him an opportunity to speak and charged him with hiaving broken his word. Senator Glass said “You lie,” and both thereupon lunged at each other. In a moment the Senate was a scene of hubbub. Severlal minutes elapsed before the pair separated. In the House of Representatives, Tincher and Strong also hurled the word “lie” at each other. Mrs Tincher had told her husband that she overheard Representative Strong criticising his (attitude on pending agricultural legislation, and when the latter denied this, Representative Tincher applied the epithet. The men sprang at each other till the Speaker and other representatives farced them lapart.
