IN HEAVY SEAS
FINE SEAMANSHIP NAVAL OFFICER’S LIFE SAVED SWEPT OVERBOARD BY BIG WAVE GIBRALTAR, Jan. 20. Fine seamanship saved Lieutenant Burges, whom a huge wave washed off the destroyer Splendid. Lieutenant-Commanler Falls manoeuvred the vessel to where Lieutenant Burges was floating on the crest of a wave and hauled him aboard as it washed on to the ship’s side. A cook, who also went overboard, was washed back on to the deck by the succeeding wave.
