A SMART RESCUE
ESCAPE FROM DROWNING CONSTABLE’S PROMPT ACTION (Per Press Association}. AUCKLAND, Doc. 28. A smart rescue from drowning was effected by a member of the police force at Milford Beach about 5 o ’clock Itust evening. When walking along the beach, Con stable F. Oliver, of the Newmarke station, who is at present on sick-leave heard shouts for help, and noticed a man in difficulties some distance from the shore. A number of bathers were in the water within ta short distance of the drowning man, but apparently they were unaware of his predicament. Fully clothed, the constable dashed into tho sea, and within a short time had the swimmer on the beach. The Latter, who was a man of about 28 vears of age, had suffered from a severe attack of cramp, and would probably have been earned out to sea by the tide had it not been for the constable’s prompt action. Once brought to the shore he soon recovered.
