BOWLING (From the “Chronicle’s” Special Correspondent). On the local bowling green on Monday the first competition for the Barnett Pairs was held, twelve teams taking park D. Hay won the first place for skips, with five games, after an interesting contest. Three players Gardner, O’Neill, and P. Williams tied for first place in the leads section. Gardner met O’Neill in the play-off, the former winning by 6 points to 2. Gardner then met P. Williams, and after a very interesting contest, won by 5 points to 2, thus winning the leads’ championship in the competition. The playing of the Barnett Pairs occupied the whole of the day. CRICKET. A match took place on the Taihape Domain on Monday between A and B teams, and resulted in a win for the latter on the first innings.
