AMUSEMENTS, MEETINGS, ETC.

THE GRAND THEATRE LEWIS STONE—LOVER IN r. BIG NEW ROLE Picture-goers generally regard Lewis j Stone as one of the screen’s most acceptable lovers. Many and varied are the “manly” roles portrayed by this : popular suar, but few of his admirers |were prepared for the surprises in “Old Loves and New,” which opened at the Grand Theatre yesterday to crowded houses. This picture was adapted from. |the novel “The Desert Healer,” which I was written by E. M. Hull, whose 'previous effort, “The Sheik,’’ created, screened. “Old Loves tind New” revealed Lewis Stone as an ardent desert lover, and with Barabara Bedford in a most exacting and dramatic role, some very tense moments tire experienced by the sjiectator. Katherine McDonald, also has an important part, that of the faithless wife. Waiter Pidgeon, as the villain, is very convincing, as is Tully Marshall in his characterisation of the crafty, treacherous Arab. The other attraction, “A Streak of Luck,” is a outdoor drama, featuring Buffalo Bill Junior. This picture equals, if not excels, the best Western picture seen nere for months. Full of comedy situations, it will keep any audience interested from the start to the final fade out. A special English Gazette shows the 1926 Oxford and Gambridge boat race from start to [finish, and other notable events. This {programme will be repeated again to--day and to-night and intending patrons are reminded, to secure seats or go early. The box plan for reserves is | open at the Grand Theatre office.
