AUCKLAND’S WATER
CONTROL OF SUPPLY PROPOSED BOARD CRITICISED (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 5. When the Auckland Provincial Water Board Bill (introduced by Mr J. 8. Dickson, member for Parnell) came on in the House of Representatives yesterday afternoon, considerable opposition developed against its second reading. The Bill proposes to set up a Board empowered to supply certain district! surrounding Auckland City with water. The opposition was displayed be-'*** cause Auckland city members were not consulted regarding the Bill, and they considered that the Board would become a competing body with Auckland City Council. The scheme was not the most speedy and efficient method of organising the water supply of the city, and further, the establishment of the Board would result in unnecessary duplication of local bodies. The opposition continued until 5.30 p.m., when the debate was adjourned and the House rose till Monday afternoon.
