GRAVE CONCERN
WILFUL ZAGHLUL MAY ALTER EGYPT’S OUTLOOK THREAT TO INDEPENDENCE BRITISH GOVERNMENT SENDS STRONG INSTRUCTIONS. POSITION MADE PLAIN. By Telegraph—Per Press Assn.—Copyright, Received June 2, 8.35 p.m. LONDON, June 1. The “Lobbyist” of the “Daily Express” suggests that unless Zaghlul’s demands are reasonable there may be a complete modification of the independence granted to Egypt in February, 1922. Zaghlul did not accept four reservations therein. If Zaghlul decides to take office himself the position will be one of concern to Britain, which to-day sent new instructions to Lord Lloyd to bring under Zaghlul’s notice the conditions entailed by independence and to inform him that the future depends on whether or not ho is more amenable. The “Lobbyist” says that at the moment the Government has no evidence of any change in Zaghlul’s anti-British views.
