GENERAL CONFERENCE HELD SAFEGUARDING THE SABBATH FRATERNAL GREETINGS TO NEW ZEALAND. BRISBANE,. June 2. The general conference of the Methodist Church of Australasia passed a resolution appealing to all members of the national and local Governments to safeguard Sunday aguinst all unnecessary and harmful encroachments upon its distinctive character: in particular against the growing practice of opening shops, organising sports, ex ton ding the amount ot -’tin lay labour, and generally to co-operate with the efforts of thoughtful and conscientious citizens in defence of institutions which are of unique value and are necessary for the spiritual and moral culture of mankind.
The conference also decided to send fraternal* greetings to the Methodist Church in New Zealand and other countries.
