BANDS FAREWELLED
PIPERS AND QUEEN ALEXANDRA’S HIGHLANDERS’ IMPRESSIVE TURN-OUT Marching down the Avenue shortly before noon yesterday, the Wanganui Pipe Band and Queen Alexandra’s Own Regimental Band made their last appearance before leaving for Dunedin, where they are to take part in contests next week. Lignt rain was falling as the bands paraded, and the lustre of the brass band’s turn out was a trifle dimmed by the fact that the bandsmen wore overcoats. The pipers, however, braved the weather, and their smart appearance made a great impression on the large crowds which lined the route of their march. The red-jacketed drummers added a brilliant touch of colour, while the marching of the band was impeccable. At the railway station friends and well-wishers had gathered in force, and cheers -were given for the departing bands as the train pulled out.
