UPOKONGARO FERRY (To the Editor.) Sir, It has been decided, according to the report in your to-day’s issue that the Wanganui County Council should proceed with the work of repairing the approach to the. Upokongaro Ferry, at a cost of £3OO. This is the time for all concerned to make concerted action in an endeavour to have a bridge built to replace the feyry. The £3OO would pay interest on a loan of £5OOO at 6 per cent. It is twentvfive years since the question of a bridge was first mooted, and we are as nearer realisation of this project now. If a bridge was built and a toll charged, what a good source of revenue, it would provide. Every settler in the district would be only too pleased to pay a toll provided a bridge was put up. Then again, it would make one of the best beauty drives in the district, for this would go up one side and down the other, whereas at present it entails a great deal of trouble and skill to negotiate the present means of crossing the river.—l am, etc, W.
