PRESENCE OF MIND
SAVES CYCLIST MOTOR COLLISION AVERTED [Per Press Association] AUCKLAND, Fob. 15. Mr R. S. Kallu, when cycling at Paeroa, came from behind a vehicle travelling in the same direction and rode directly in the path of an approaching motor car. Realising that a head-on collision was imminent, and with no chance of escape, he jumped off his cycle and lay flat on the roadway. The driver of the car by this time had applied his brakes, and the car passed right over Kallu’s prostrate form. Bystanders were amazed to sec Kallu emerge with nothing worse than a bruising. His bicycle was considerably damaged. But for Kallu's presence of mind a serious accident must have resulted.
