PERSONAL ITEMS (From The 11 Chronicle’s” Special Correspondent). Mr W. S. Glenn, M.P.. was in Taihape on Friday and Saturday. Air Glenn was present at the farewell to the Rev. Father Harnett on Friday evening and at the Caledonian Sports on Saturday. The Rev. Father Doolaghty, of Pal merston North, and formerly of Alarton, has been appointed parish priest at Taihape in succession to the Rev. Father Harnett, who has gone to Feild ing. The Rev. Father Garahy has boon appointed curate at Taihape in succession to the Rev. Father Carmine. Father Garahy spent the week-end in the Mangaweka end of the parish. Visitors to the Caledonian Games on Saturday included Air Ken Cameron (Dunedin), Air J. H. Ate Loan (Turnkina), and Air N. McKenzie Forbes (Wanganui). Air Cameron is president of the Pipers and Dancers’ Association, under whose rules the local sports are <onducted. Prior to her departure for Canada Miss Rita Beehan was farewelled by a large gathering of friends on Thursday evening and received a presentative. Champion pipers at the Caledonian sports on Saturday included Pipe-Major Murdoch AlcKenzio (late of the Seaforth Highlanders) and his son Piper James McKenzie (of the Scots Guards). Both the gentlemen have only been in the Dominion a few weeks and have already received important appointments The former has been appointed PipeMajor of the ITawcra Band and the latter has accepted a similar position with the Masterton Band. Air R. S. Gardner is relieving Air C. L. Dymock is manager of the local branch of the Bank of New Zealand, while the latter is on leave. OHAKUNE SCHOOL A meeting of the Ohakune School Committee was held on Wednesday evening, there being a full attendance of members. Two communications from the Wanganui Education Board were read, one stating that a gramophone was being forwarded for school use and the other enclosing a cheque for £3 3s as subsidy towards school ground improvements. It was resolved to hold the school picnic on the Taihape Recreation Ground on Al arch 5, suitable train arrangements to be made. It was decided to ask the Education Board to provide motor transport and boarding allowance for children attending school from the outlying districts. 3 Le committee agreed to recommend tc the Education Board that when teachers are appointed to the secondary department preference be given to those qualified to teach commercial subjects, provided other qualifications are eq ua 1. GENERAL NEWS Beautiful weather prevailed yesterday and on many farms in the district haymaking was in progress. On Sunday the Domain was a popular attraction and not a few picnic parties went out into the country. After a succes sion of wet week-ends the weather on that day was a treat. The ordinary sitting of the Magistrate’ k S Court will be held on Thursday and Friday, when a fairly lengthy list of cases will be disposed of. Several local woolgrowers are attending the Wanganui wool sale to-day. A number of Taihape clips are being offered. OHAKUNE BOROUGH COUNCIL ORDINARY MEETING The ordinary meeting of the Ohakune Borough Council was held on Thursday evening; present: —Air T. Herbert
