AMUSEMENTS, MEETINGS, ETC.

MUNICIPAL PICTURES. DOUBLE FEATURE PROGRAMME. Despite the inclemency of the weather last evening, there was a good attendance at the Opera House to witness the initial screening of the special double feature programme. The star feature is “The Life of Jack Hobbs,” jthe world’s famous batsman. This picture proved very interesting, and was followed with rapt attention throughout its screening, especially by local cricket fans who no doubt picked up a wrinkle or two from seeing Hobbs at close quarters. The supporting picture, “The Man Without a Heart,” deals with a young professional man whose bachelorhood has never seemed threatened by cupid’s dart until he meets a girl at a house party given by his sister. Just as he succeeds in falling in love he discovers—or thinks he does—that his fair charmer is on the eve of eloping with his brother-in-law. To save a scandal he kidnaps the girl and takes her to his hunting lodge in the mountains. The complications which follow make a story which is absorbingly interesting and brimful of suspense. Kenneth Harlan and Jane Novak are included in a cast of exceptional excellence. The supports are of equal merit.
