For sometime past the overhead light cluster at the corner of St. Hill Street and Ridgway Street has not been on it a best behaviour. It is necessary that this corner be well lighted, for a large share of vehicular traffic uses the St. Hill Street route to avoid tho Avenue during tho busy period. Then there is a cluster at the Fire Brigade corner- --AV i Ison and Guyton Streets junction. This too is a busy centre, ami the electric light should be on every night, for there appears to be no other light at this dangerous intersection.

On Saturday afternoon residents in the vicinity of Company’s Bay jetty, Dunedin, were startled by piercing screams from the direction of the water. A small boy and a girl had been enjoying themselves in a small punt at the boat shed just beyond the jetty, and the strong wiml ami tide catching ths craft, it was rapidly <1 riven from tho shore. Ina few moments the children were carried on the strong current up the harbour. Their terror was increased when they discovered that the punt was leaking, ami, as they had onth oar only they were practically helpless. Their cries reached tho oars of two young men in the boatshed, who promptly launched a small rowing boat and eventually overtook the castaways well off Alacandrew’s Bay jetty. The rescue was effected np«e too soon, as tho punt was well filled with wairr, and could not have remained afloat much longer.
