A bu?h fire is raging in the Rubicon Forest, comprising over eighty thousand acres. Unless rain falls there is a danger of the whole forest being wiped out. The fire is characterised by the Chief Inspector of Forests as the worst in tlip {history nf Victoria. It travelled at an
amazing speed, and at- one time was five miles long, a quarter nf a mile wide and a hundred feet high. There have been many narrow escapes. Up to the present the fire has made a clean sweep of seven square miles of some of the finest timber reserves in the State.
