HOSPITAL ECONOMIES

(To the Editor.) Sir,-—At Ihe opening ceremony of the new Nurses’ Home at, the Wanganui Hospital on Wednesday last. Air. E. !•.. Fletcher, chairman of the Board, made reference to the opening of tho Hospital by the late Hon. R. .1. Seddon. On that occasion it will be remembered by those who wore, present (and it was a largo gathering, the day being declared a public half-holiday by tho Mayor. Mr. J. L. Stevenson), the chairman of tho Board, Mr. A. J. Parsons, montivmeil in his address that ho was pleased to state that the rate of 6s. per £1990 on tho, capital value of tho rateable property in the district (3s fid per £lO9O for hospital maintenance, 2s fid per £l9OO for charitable aid purposes) was the lowest in the colony. At the Inst mooting of the Hospital Board, Air. Coleman stated that the contribution levied on tho Rangitikei County Council for the current year is £9009. It would bo of , interest to tho ratepayers to know' what rate per £lO9O on the capital value , of the County is required to make up that very large amount. It is satisfactory to have the assurance of Dr. Valintine that he felt that Wanganui’s medical superintendent was going to effect economies; there is certainly need for it, and it is tn bo hoped that 11io medical superintendent will have every assistance from not only tho members of the, Board but also Dr. Valintine.—■ 1 am, etc., ECONOMY.
