EX-CHAMPION OF ENGLAND VISITS DOMINION. AUCKLAND, Dec. 21. Miss Hilda James, ex-amateur chamIpion lady swimmer of England, who is (swimming instructress on the Carinthia, |is one of the world’s greatest women I swimmers, brilliant over both short land long distances. Miss James still (holds the ladies’ 220yds. world’s record of 2min 40 3-osoc., while until recently her times of 4niin 21 sec. for 300yds., land J min 48sec. for 150 yds.. were also [world’s records. In .1922 Miss James toured America, and. scored many notable victories against America’s best performers, besides establishing numerous records. She is the best lady swimmer England has produced. Not only has she won the 100yds. championship in about 66sec., but she has also finished first four times in the annual long distance ladies’ championship of England on the Thames, from Kcw Bridge to University Stone, a distance lof five miles 60 yards.
